Should I Get
Spine Surgery?

NECK

ACDF

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion

The procedure

ACDF approaches the spine from the front of the neck. The surgeon removes a disc to relieve pressure on nerve roots or the spinal cord, then fuses the treated level or levels.

The goal in your case

The goal may include arm symptom relief, addressing spinal-cord compression or both. Ask your surgeon to explain the priority in your case.

Readiness and clinical context

Hand function, walking, strength, examination findings and any progression can matter alongside neck disability scores.

Alternatives to discuss

Ask whether disc replacement or a posterior approach is an option for your particular condition.

A question for your surgeon

Is the goal pain relief, preventing neurologic decline, or both?

Ask your surgeon to review important complications, the likelihood of benefit and what recovery may involve for you. This summary is not a complete consent discussion.
